Another member of the water lily family, this “Lotus” flower has been used for years in herbal medicine. The gorgeous red flower is prized for its looks, has been used as an astringent and a cardiac tonic. The flowers have also been used to support treatment of fevers and diarrhea. The root and rhizomes have been decocted for medicinal uses, while the leaves have been used as an external paste. Even the seed has been roasted and used as a substitute for coffee.
