Another gift from the beautiful Elder tree, the flowers are not as well-known as the berries, yet still pack quite the herbal punch. Found to have an anti-inflammatory and expectorant property, the flowers are employed for various respiratory actions, and are included in treatments for coughing and bronchitis. As a diaphoretic, the flowers encourage the loss of toxins through perspiration, and therefore are often used as a fever reducer, especially useful in treatment of the cold and flu. It is also commonly used as a diuretic to increase urination. Elder flowers bring a dry and cooling energy with them, and are a fantastic addition to teas and tinctures!
