A very popular plant, Coltsfoot is a name you will hear in many respiratory blends. As a demulcent and expectorant, it is one of the best cough remedies, usually combined with other popular respiratory herbs. It is used in tea, syrup, or smoked for support in the lungs, including colds and asthma. The syrup is especially recommended for chronic bronchitis. The fresh leaves or syrup are good for bad dry cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath. A compress has been used at times for hot swellings or for inflammation. The coltsfoot flower used to be painted on the doorpost of the apothecaries in Paris.
